Research Supervision Workshop: 17th - 18th June 2002

Key Skills for Research Programme Supervisors Time: 09.15 - 21.30 (on day 1) & 09.15 - 16.00 (on day 2)

This well established residential Workshop at Heaton Mount is designed both for members of academic staff [including Contract Research Staff] new to Research Supervision, and for experienced colleagues wishing to review their own practice - and prepared to offer their experience to colleagues.

The course is based on a minimum of formal presentations. Case Studies in research supervision are analysed in depth through small-group Workshops, followed by plenary discussion of the issues. After a Buffet Reception on the first evening, a session on interactive role-play develops specific questioning/listening skills in respect of managing a research student.

The Workshop covers a range of issues and topics including:

  • recruitment, selection and induction
  • programme definition, planning and management
  • joint supervision issues
  • supervising part-time and off-campus students
  • strategies and good practice for Internal/External Examiners
  • sponsored research and Intellectual Property Rights
  • action plans for personal development.

This Workshop has proved to be a highly effective way to meet and network with colleagues right across the University and to compare notes. Overnight residence at Heaton Mount is optional. The Workshop is presented by 15 academic staff, co-ordinated by Professor Tony Fell.

If you would like to attend this Workshop, please either complete the on-line booking form at: www.brad.ac.uk/research/pgcourses/Form.html , e-mail: staffdev@bradford.ac.uk or call us on ext: 3102.

Deadline for receipt of applications for the above workshop is Friday 31 May 2002.
