Extraordinary Meetings of Assembly
- Monday 28 October 2002 from 12.30-14.00pm in the Great Hall
An Extraordinary Meeting to be immediately followed by a second Extraordinary Meeting of Assembly has been arranged for Monday 28 October 2002 in the Great Hall commencing at 12.30pm.
The Extraordinary Meeting is convened under statute 25(7) and Regulation 18iv as the requisite number of members of Assembly have written to the Vice-Chancellor as follows:
"Pursuant upon University Statute 25 (7), we the undersigned members of the Assembly are writing to request as Extraordinary Meeting of the Assembly prior to signature of the formal deed of merger with Bradford College. The purpose of the meeting will be a) to discuss and declare an opinion on whether there should be a referendum of members of the Assembly prior to the decision on merger; b) to permit the Vice-Chancellor to set forth the arguments in favour of merger and to answer any questions and to still any doubts."
Normally an Extraordinary Meeting is convened not later than two weeks from the date of the receipt of the requisition. However, the Vice-Chancellor has also received a request from the Standing Committee of Assembly that a Special Meeting of Assembly be held to discuss the final report of the Feasibility Project Team prior to the meetings of Senate, Academic Board and Council and Corporation.
The Vice-Chancellor has, therefore, in response to the requisition and at his discretion convened two Extraordinary Meetings at a date when the Final Report of Phase II will be available to members of Assembly.
Formal agendas for both the Extraordinary meetings will be issued one week before the date of the meeting via Staff Briefing and the Assembly Web-site.
Eye Clinic seeks patients with a view to teaching students
The University Eye Clinic provides full optometric services (eye examinations, spectacles, contact lenses, etc) to the public throughout the year. During semesters services are provided by final year students under Department of Optometry staff supervision.
The Clinic is on the Listerhills Science Park, directly opposite Longside Halls of Residence.
Now that the semester is in full swing, the Eye Clinic has increased capacity for patients. In return for the investment of time spent being examined in the student clinics, patients receive 25% discount on spectacles, and contact lenses are supplied without a fitting fee. Soft and Gas Permeable contact lenses start at £49 per pair, with daily disposables at £1 per pair.

Finance Directorate Customer Care Questionnaire
The Finance Directorate is currently reviewing the level of financial services provided to the University and ways of improving customer care. To this end it would be appreciated if you could spare a few minutes completing a short questionnaire to provide feedback on the level of service and any suggestions for improvements. Questionnaires are anonymous and deal with a range of issues from appropriateness of information to professionalism of staff.

2002/03 National & Local Pay Awards
This is notification that the Universities and Colleges Employers Association (UCEA) reported on 30 September 2002 that they had received trade union agreement to the final offer on pay for 2002/03.
At this stage we have established the following timetable for payment:
- Weekly paid staff - 17 October 2002, with back pay on 31 October 2002.
- Monthly paid staff - 25 October 2002, including back pay.
- 4-weekly paid staff - 7 November, including back pay.
The settlement will be backdated to 1 August 2002 for all categories of staff and further details about the actual amounts can be found at: www.brad.ac.uk/admin/personnel or contact personnel on ext: 5347.
Early Bird Friday at Theatre in the Mill
This Friday (18th) sees the first of the Early Bird Friday shows at Theatre in the Mill. These shows start at 6.30pm rather than the usual time of 7.30pm, so that staff can go along after work, enjoy a drink in the bar, see the show and still have time for the rest of evening! All tickets are just £3.50 for University and College staff.
This week's show is Que Sera Sera? which tells the story of Luis and Louise, an unlikely couple who meet in Luis' South American hometown. They immediately fall into the most passionate and sensual dance. Louise's holiday romance follows her back home to England...but will it send her climbing up the curtains?
