A reminder to visit: http://www.brad.ac.uk/corporateplan/
The Stephen Lawrence inquiry report, a watershed in race relations, led to the introduction of the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 (RRAA) - the biggest change in race relations law for 25 years. The RRAA introduced new duties in relation to race equality on public sector bodies, including universities. The purpose of this legislation is to promote the race equality agenda and to impose a positive duty on public sector employers:
Over the next few months there will be clarification about what we will have to do to demonstrate we are meeting the requirements of the RRAA, in the meantime the University's Race Equality Policy and Action Plan, approved by HEFCE on behalf of the Government and Commission for Racial Equality, can be found at www.brad.ac.uk/equality/REpolicy.php.
I would urge you to start thinking about what this means to each of you in respect of the job that you do. For those in management positions, you may need to refer to sections of the full documentation for clarification of some of the actions set out in the Plan. The full document is available at www.brad.ac.uk/equality/REpolicy.php.
The reason I am writing to you today is to bring to your attention the fact that we now have a Race Equality Policy and Action Plan and that this is of utmost importance to the University, not only in the way we think about the race implications in all our normal day-to-day activities and the way we behave, but also how we can show we are making progress.

If you want to share some seasonal good will please either bring food to Student Financial and Information Services or email us at sfis@bradford.ac.uk and we will collect it from you.
SFIS will be open until lunchtime on Christmas Eve and from the 5th January.
Any students worried about money or any other issue can be directed to us as usual.
