Transforming HR administration in the University

The HRX project will simplify and place online many HR processes. As a result many tasks will be able to occur faster, be recorded more accurately and duplicate effort will be removed. Some of the improved processes include:

These changes to the way that HR administration is undertaken will be rolled out during 2010 and this will have an impact on all staff.

So that members of staff can use the new online services, the University will be aiming to support you if necessary, to achieve a basic level of computer literacy. We have identified a number of staff members who do not currently have an e-mail address and thesehave beenapproached to understand and meet their IT training needs. We also recognise that there may be others in the University who feel that they do not have the basic IT skills necessary for these online processes. If you or a colleague without computer access require training and haven’t been approached, please express your interest to Rachael Simpson in HR (ext. 5168 or r.simpson1@bradford.ac.uk).

Supporting The Braduate Fund student callers

As announced by the Vice-Chancellor last week, the University will be launching The Braduate Fund on 21 February 2010. A telethon will run for four weeks from 21 February to 21 March when current students will be telephoning Bradford graduates to talk about University life and ask for support towards scholarships, hardship funding and projects benefitting student life.

During the telethon we will be providing the 40 student callers, who will be working Monday - Thursday evenings andboth weekend days, with drinks and snacks to keep them refreshed. To keep costs to a minimum, if you have any unwanted and unopened Christmas gifts of biscuits or chocolates/sweets that you could donate I am sure the student callers will be very appreciative.

If you can help our fundraising effort in this way please contact June or Mandy in the Alumni Office on ext. 5179/3086 or email June Kronbachs at j.kronbachs@bradford.ac.uk.

National Student Survey update

The National Student Survey (NSS) continues at the University as we aim for a minimum 70 percent response rate from our final year students. We need a 50 percent response for any course's entries to be valid. Good NSS scores can help protect the University's future affecting our league table positions and promoting us to potential students.

Contact Mark Dolby, Internal Communications Officer, if you require any further promotional materials or support (m.dolby@bradford.ac.uk)

Latest response rates are now on the intranet at www.bradford.ac.uk/nss

N-Able (Disabled Staff Network) is getting fit

Next meeting, 12:30pm, 26 February at Unique: Fitness & Lifestyle.

Email disabilities@bradford.ac.uk or call Helena Jones (ext. 3736) or Cath Hooson (ext. 3320) to confirm attendance.

N-Able was set up in 2006, to provide support for disabled members of staff here in the University. You do not need to be disabled to be part of the network but you do need to have an interest in equality and in making things better for disabled people at the University. The next meeting of the network is on 26 February at 12.30pm.

In an attempt to beat the winter blues and get fitter for spring, we have arranged to hold it in the newly developed Unique: Fitness & Lifestyle centre where Sharam Amindari (Leisure Facilities Manager) has kindly organised for the group to have a tour, specifically to look at the range of accessible equipment and services that have contributed to the centre getting 'Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI)' accreditation. He has also agreed to talk to the meeting about possible discount membership deals for disabled staff.

If you are interested in seeing what is on offer, either for you or so that you can support your disabled colleagues or students, please come along. Lunch will be provided. Please let us know as soon as possible if you will be attending and if you have any dietary requirements, so that we can make appropriate arrangements with catering.

The information that is obtained will be used to help target and develop new areas for educational provision and opportunities for you. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey by clicking on the link below:

The information collected will be treated confidentially and individuals will not be identified. The deadline for completion is 1 March. Works on Campus

Heating problems within Horton A building

The performance of the heating system serving Horton A building will continue to be affected this week. It has been necessary to isolate the main air supply fan which serves the 'blown air' areas. This is needed to enable the removal of asbestos insulating board within the plant room. The perimeter heating systems will remain functional during this work.

Please contact Keith Maven, Mechanical Maintenance Officer, on ext. 3437 if you have any queries regarding these works.
