Yorkshire Electricity: Electrical shutdown, and disruption to network services
In order to enable essential maintenance work to be carried out on both the Yorkshire Electricity and the University's High Voltage equipment a complete shutdown of the electrical supply to the University Main Campus is necessary.
Arrangements have been made for this to take place on Sunday 28th July 2002 (not Saturday 27th July 2002 as circulated previously) and in consequence there will be no electricity supply to any of the buildings on the Main Campus, from approximately 0800 hours to 1700 hours.

Early Birds catch Top Shows this Autumn at Theatre in the Mill
Watch out for a brand new initiative for staff this autumn at Theatre in the Mill.
Early Bird Fridays will feature shows specially chosen for University staff and students at the special start time of 6.30pm. This means that staff can come and see a show straight from work and be finished well in time to go home and enjoy the rest of the evening.
And what's more, all University staff get in at a special concession rate for these two shows on production of valid staff card!
The two Early Bird Friday shows are:
- 'Que Sera Sera?' by Miren Cicus Theatre Company 6.30pm Friday 18 October
- 'Company of Angels - the Story of Charlotte Salomon' by Horse & Bamboo Theatre 6.30pm Friday 22 November
Full details of these Early Bird Friday shows and other events in the autumn season will be available in the Theatre in the Mill season brochure.

Arts Email News
For all staff who have missed their weekly dose of Arts News by email, big apologies.
Unfortunately Theatre in the Mill has lost the member of staff who compiled the newsletter. The bad news is that at present thee are no plans to replace this post.
Theatre in the Mill is very sorry that it has had to reluctantly suspend Arts News for the forseeable future.

SAINT Reports Presentation: How SAINT Reporting will work - POSTPONED
Due to feedback received from users it has been decided to postpone the above presentation.
The Team will either run the above presentation in August and/or run a series of weekly workshops (starting in August) to support users with their requirements to extract relevant information from SAINT.

Name Change
From the 1st August 2002 the two departments of Applied Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Human Studies will be merged and known as Dept of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Car Parking Fees
The decision was made at a recent meeting of University Council to increase the annual parking fees for members of University staff, with effect from 1st October 2002, as follows:
| £9.00 for motor cycles | |
| £22.00 for staff using car parks on no more than three days or six half days per week | |
| £123.00 for staff using car parks on no more than three days or six half days per week within the controlled area * | |
| £37.00 for staff using other car parks | |
| £135.00 for staff using car parks within the controlled area * | |
| £146.00 in the case of eligible senior staff who wish to preserve their entitlement to a parking place. (Those eligible are staff holding full-time appointments who, by custom and practice, have been allocated a named reserved space prior to 1.10.93 and other staff holding appointments as Heads of Departments or Deans) | |
| £245.00 in the case of eligible senior staff who wish to preserve their entitlement to a parking place within the controlled area *. (Those eligible are staff holding full-time appointments who, by custom and practice, have been allocated a named reserved space prior to 1.10.93 and other staff holding appointments as Heads of Departments or Deans) |
* The controlled area is the area between the two sets of barriers in Richmond Road, and includes all car parks within that area. Members of staff or students are not permitted to use the Visitor's car park which is contained within the controlled area.
Increases have also been increased for all students, and details of the costs of permits for students will shortly be available on the Student Financial and Information Services website.

Stalwarts Retire
Dorothy Carter and Pat Eastwood have been teaching a Senior Citizens yoga class at the University Sports Centre since the beginning of the 1982 academic year and have decided to call it a day. They have travelled over from Leeds every week in all weathers and have never missed a class. They are great favourites with all the Seniors who attend the class and will be sorely missed. Dorothy maintains that age is catching up with them, joints are beginning to creak, but they look pretty frisky to us!
They have had the good grace to recruit a replacement teacher for us and we welcome Mary Midgley into the fold. She will begin taking the class in September 2002.
From all the Sports Centre Staff and all yogis past and present, a very happy retirement to Dorothy and Pat. (I set them on when I became Director of Physical Recreation in September 1982 - what a team!)
