New voicemail system - action required

The University is moving to an upgraded voicemail service. Please note:

Please dial in to the new service on temporary extension 6969 and then enter the security code 000000; the voicemail system will then prompt you and take you through the setup process for creation of security code, name, and no answer greetings. Members of staff who use the voicemail forwarding function to a secretary or other colleague should contact ICT Servicedesk (ext. 3333 or email ictservicedesk@bradford.ac.uk) who will set this up for you.

From start of business on Friday 16 April, the new service will then use the standard voicemail number ext. 6666 and the old system will no longer be accessible. Further information will be provided via Staff Briefing, on new unified messaging (UM) functionality which provides voicemail to email and voicemail to SMS services, following a period of live testing of this new system.

If you have any queries or encounter difficulties with any of the above, please contact ICT Servicedesk in the first instance on ext. 3333 or email ictservicedesk@bradford.ac.uk

Mobile Enabling Technologies - a one day workshop

25 March, 10am - 3pm, School of Health

This one day workshop will present the outcomes of two studies undertaken at the University of Bradford. The first study focused on establishing what advantages mobile devices can offer disabled students, as well as identifying the challenges that they face when using mobile technologies. The second study then built on these findings to explore the relationship between the desirability of mobile devices and the student’s engagement with mobile learning and assessment.

The research methods in both studies proved to be innovative and the team involved will share their experiences at the workshop.

Horton A Project

A new gas supply pipe to serve the existing boiler plant for Horton D Lecture Theatre is currently being installed. This may affect pedestrian routes along part of the Horton D Building. Connection to the Utilities network will be from their main in Richmond Road on the opposite side to the entrance of Richmond Building terminating within a meter housing inside the bicycle enclosure. The heating system within Horton D Lecture Theatre will remain unaffected.

The work commenced on Thursday 11th March 2010 and will take seven days to substantial completion and a further five days to final completion (including a temporary re-surfacing) although work may be completed before this time.

Please note: following the excavation of the grassed area, further reinforced concrete has been discovered which will involve the use of a pneumatic hammer to break out. This drilling work will commence on Monday 15th March and staff and students working within the vicinity will experience periods of constant noise which unfortunately is unavoidable.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused during these works.

If you have any queries regarding the work please contact Paul Lambourne on ext. 3751.
