BriefingAlongside the many events here on campus, the British Science Festival will also arrive at Bradford Theatres. A series of shows will be presented at St George’s Hall, the Alhambra Theatre and The Studio to mark this celebration of science in the city.
Highlights include; an evening with ‘The world’s greatest living explorer of our time’ Sir Ranulph Fiennes, at St George’s Hall on Wednesday 14 September, 8.30pm and Bad Ideas? An Arresting History of our Inventions: with Professor Robert Winston, Thursday 15 September, 5.30pm. Not to mention lots of weird and wonderful show at the Alhambra Studio.

There will be a Book of Condolence for staff to sign in remembrance of Arthur Kershaw for a period of two weeks. After which the book will be handed to Arthur’s mother Mary.
If you wish to sign the Book it will be located in Room K37, Richmond Building. If you have any trouble accessing this room please go to the Dean’s Office in K35.
Students, Schools, Departments and Societies of the University of Bradford may submit an application for a grant from ‘where the need is greatest’ and ‘student resources and student life’. Scholarship and Hardship funds will be managed by the relevant University committees. The overall aim is to make possible extra and special opportunities which are not supported by conventional funding and that will make a significant contribution to the Bradford student experience.
The deadline for applications is Friday 30 September 2011.

The accomodation office are providing staff with an opportunity to tour The Green, our new student accommodation this Friday. The tours will take place at 12 noon, 1pm and 2pm. If you would like to take a look around the new development please email m.dolby@bradford.ac.uk with your preferred time. Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

The University of Bradford has established a new Women’s Staff Forum, which met for the first time on 11 August. The Forum provides a safe and confidential meeting space for women from all levels and grades to discuss issues relating to female staff at the University. The next meeting of the forum is being held on Thursday 15 September at 12-2pm in D1 Conference Room, Richmond Building. Light lunch and refreshments will be provided.

The University and the University and College Union are pleased to announce that, following successful negotiations a new framework for the employment of part-time hourly-paid teaching staff has been agreed. It will be implemented for all new appointments from the next academic session, 2011/12.
As a responsible employer the University is committed to the principle of equal pay for work of equal value and to ensuring that colleagues engaged on a part-time hourly-paid basis experience conditions of employment and treatment broadly similar to colleagues employed on substantive contracts. Central to the new framework are new job descriptions which have been drafted and agreed and rates of pay that are linked to the national pay scale. From now on colleagues employed on a part-time hourly paid basis will receive payment on the basis of actual hours worked rather than payment based on student contact hours as in the past. Whilst the base hourly rates of payment have reduced the hours paid will increase on the basis of allowances for marking, preparation and all associated relevant activities that are incorporated.

The School of Optometry and Vision Science are recruiting participants for research investigating the behaviour of contact lenses in short-sighted people, to be conducted between now and 9 September.They are especially pleased to hear from people with a prescription between -5.00 and -7.00.
You will receive Up to £25 compensation for your time over 2 appointments. You don’t need to be a contact lens wearer.

The Contractor's compound for the Refurbishment of D,E and f Floors will be set up at the "head end" of the Car Park between Richmond wing and Workshop Block (adjacent steps down to Boiler Room level)
Pedestrian and Fire Escape accesses will be maintained. The Contract is due to run for 12 weeks, disruption will be kept to a minimum.

During refurbishment of D Floor Carlton Wing we regret that the toilets in that area will be unavailable. This will particularly affect bookings in the D Floor Management Suite. The nearest toilets are adjacent to the Gt Hall on Level C or on upper floors of the Carlton wing.
