General University notices

New. National Student Survey

The National Student Survey (NSS) is an on-line survey of final year students across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The survey will seek the views of final year, full time, HEFCE funded students and will be carried out by Ipsos by email during the week commencing 30th January 2006. Please help us to increase the response rate by promoting this with your students and encouraging them to respond.

All courses with results which meet the minimum response threshold will be published on the TQI website (www.tqi.ac.uk external link, will open in a new window) so that potential students can use the information to help with their decision making about choices of course and/or institution. This is clearly a very important tool in attracting new students and we need to maximise this as much as possible. The response rate of our students to last year’s survey carried was disappointing, leading to some of our courses having no results published on the website, and we are therefore hoping to increase the response rate this year. Could you please raise with your final year students the importance of completing the survey.

The NSS results last year were inevitably also used in league tables published in some national newspapers. We would like to increase our position in the league tables and we can only do this by encouraging our students to participate. Schools should also, by now, be familiar with the results from last year’s survey - those Schools who had less than satisfactory results need to be looking at the reasons for this and resolving any problems so that the scores are higher this time around.

Any School wishing to view their results in detail can check the TQI website or contact Chris Toft in ASSU for a printed version of their results.

Chris Toft
Head of ASSU

Professional Development in Leadership and Management (reminder)

The University is running a Leadership and Management programme incorporating the ILM level 4 Diploma in Management.

The Foundation Degree in Leadership and Management is designed for people currently working in a managerial role. The course provides the necessary skills and knowledge for effective leaders and managers and augments this with practical work experience in your existing role. The programme also incorporates the Level 4 Diploma in Management from the Institute of Leadership and Management so you can achieve two qualifications at the same time!

The programme is modular and can be studied part-time, which equates to the equivalent of one day per week attending classes.

Our next programme starts on Monday 30 January, with 2 modules running from 2pm through to 9pm with a one hour break between 5pm and 6pm.

We will be holding an information event in Richmond Foyer on Wednesday 18 January between 1pm and 5pm where you can find out more, or call Alan Maybury on (23)3210 or email a.maybury@bradford.ac.uk
