Feasibility Study Opinion Survey and Open Surgery
Staff are reminded that they can still contribute to the feasibility study opinion survey in a number of ways including submitting your comments directly to the project office (D51 Richmond) via email at feasibilitystudy@bradford.ac.uk or posting your comments for others to read and respond to on the web based message board.
You could also attend the Open Surgery at 3pm Monday 23 September 2002 in the Project Office (D51 Richmond).
In your feedback you may wish to consider responding to the following 3 questions:
- What comments do you have on the academic strategy outlined in the Feasibility Study Report?
- What comments would you offer on the possible merger and how it could be made as beneficial as possible for the two institutions?
- Are there any other comments that you would like to feedback?

Insight Plus
Don't forget about Insight Plus!!
This innovative and exciting programme allows students to work towards a recognised certificate in Management (awarded by the Institute of Leadership and Management, part of the City and Guilds group). Students need to be participating in an activity for about 10 hours per week.
These activities can range from being a member of a sports club to being a student on placement, as well as having a part time job. Registration closes on the 31st October 2002, and students must register via the web: www.insightplus.co.uk.
The scheme costs £49, but £25 will be refunded to successful students upon completion of the programme.

Invitation to a celebration of 21st Century Science
Around 1675 Archbishop Ussher and others calculated that the Creation of the Universe started around 9am on Monday the 23rd October 4004 BC. Today science has separated itself from belief and now we know that the Universe was born around 15 Gigayears ago. Ussher tried to be a serious scientist in his day. Look at the Armagh Observatory web site www.arm.ac.uk/history/ussher.html.
You are invited to an evening to celebrate the richness of 21st Century Science that underpins our understanding of the age of the Universe and would be appreciated by Archbishop Ussher. Please put the date in your diary - Wednesday 23rd October, D4 Richmond Building from 6.30pm - and please consider volunteering to give a short relevant presentation.
So far we have Professor Mark Pollard on dating and John Baruch on the redshift conundrum. It is hoped to include Fred Hoyle's contribution to understanding the age of the Sun and others. Please register that you are coming.
Entry is by ticket application to Sajida Manir in Cybernetics on ext 4112 who will supply the tickets. It will be a public event, along the research councils' public engagement with science agenda.

The University's New Staff Handbook and Diagrammatic Overview of the Organisation produced by the Staff Development Unit have been updated for 2002/3. Short Courses for Research Programme 2002/3 available now!
The 2002/3 Programme of Short Courses for research staff and students organised jointly between the Graduate School and the Staff Development Unit is available on the web now at: www.brad.ac.uk/research/pgcourses.
Paper copies are currently being printed and will be forwarded to departments for dissemination to students in the next few weeks. In the meantime, it would be helpful if research supervisors made their students aware of its presence on the web.

Catering Service Studentcard
Available for staff and non 1st years as of the week beginning 23rd of September The catering Studentcard is similar in appearance to a credit card but contains a microchip and needs to be credited before it is used. You will receive 10% discount in refectories and café bars on selected items. It is convenient, flexible and offers peace of mind. With credit on your Studentcard you need never worry about going hungry.
