New. Blackboard Upgrade and Rollover - week Beginning 23rd July 2007

Later this summer, we plan to upgrade Blackboard. This will improve the capabilities of Blackboard and further allow you to support students’ learning. The upgrade is a significant operation and it will require that Blackboard is taken off-line for a period. Although some users will be affected by this downtime, as there is no time in the year when we don't have teaching, we have determined that this week will have the least overall impact on courses.

At the same time as upgrading the system, we will conduct the annual roll-over of Blackboard modules (courses). This is where new Blackboard modules are created for 2007-8 based on the information in Saint. We will automatically copy material from existing 2006-7 modules into the new 2007-8 versions where they have comparable module codes. This is the most useful situation for the majority of tutors at Bradford. It means that you can start adding material for next year to your existing equivalent modules now. If, however, you wish to rebuild your module(s) from scratch, then please contact us and we will exclude the relevant modules.

In order to carry out the upgrade, roll-over and testing that is required, we plan that Blackboard will be unavailable for the whole week (w/b 23rd July). We appreciate your patience while the system is unavailable and apologise for any inconvenience. We are also sure that you will find the new and improved features worthwhile and that they add to the learning and teaching experience for you and your students. During the week beginning 10th September, we will be running some sessions to bring users up to speed with the new features. These can be booked online through the Learning & Teaching section of the Staff Development Programme at http://www.brad.ac.uk/dev-prog

If you have any queries or concerns, please contact the Learning Technology Team.

Training and Development Opportunities for Staff

Clearing Training Days 2007 (reminder)

Training Sessions have been scheduled for Tuesday 3 July (9.30am and 1.30pm sessions) and Thursday 12 July (9.30am and 1.30pm sessions). These will take place in the JB Priestley Library, in rooms 01.4 and 01.53.

Attendance at one 3 hour session (morning or afternoon) on either day is considered sufficient to provide all staff working on the Helpline the necessary experience (revision) in dealing with callers and working with relevant SAINT screens. This session may also assist departmental staff by providing a framework for base room activity.

A drop-in session has been arranged for Tuesday 14th August (11am - 2pm) in room 01.53 as a refresher session for any staff volunteers who want to practice any aspect of the Clearing Helpline.

Even if you are already familiar with the above SAINT-based facilities, it is essential that all those intending to support confirmation and clearing activities, either on the Helpline, or at departmental level attend a training session.

To reserve a place at one of the July training sessions, please complete a booking form at the following web page:
http://www.brad.ac.uk/dev-prog/development/index.php?course=CLHT

Confirmation of your place and any final details will be sent to you during the week prior to the training.
