New. Investors in People Internal Review
Autumn 2004

Internal Review is the name of the process we are using for our continued assessment against the national Investors in People standard. The University wishes to retain recognition and will be undergoing a continuation assessment during the Autumn of 2004. This will involve people from within the University who have been trained as internal reviewers. They will be interviewing a representative sample of University staff in each of the University's Schools and planning units. In addition, an external assessor will be interviewing senior management. The whole process will be co-ordinated by the Staff Development Unit.

Information about Investors in People can be obtained via the Staff Development website http://www.brad.ac.uk/admin/staffdev/IiP/ .

Interviews will last up to 30 minutes and cover topics such as

  • Training and development
  • Management support
  • University, School or departmental objectives
  • Appraisal outcomes
  • Induction (if you're new to your job)

Each School and admin dept will be organising its own interviews at some point between now and the end of November.

New. Lecture Room Services (LRS) - are moving

With effect from Monday 1st November 2004, Lecture Room Services (LRS) loan equipment (laptops, LCD projectors and cameras etc), previously issued from the office at F24C/D Richmond Building, will now be provided from its new location in Room C80 (Ancillary Services office), link corridor (ground floor), Richmond Building.

Also, the responsibility of providing keys to access Audio Visual cabinets/equipment in General Teaching Areas (GTA) will be transferred from Reception/Security, Main Foyer, Richmond Building to LRS at the new location in C80.

The above services will be provided between the hours of 08:00 to 16:30, Monday to Friday. However, should keys be required to access equipment or portable equipment need to be returned outside of these hours/days, they will be issued/received by Reception/Security.

This change in operations is in direct response to requests made by teaching staff regarding the present system, and should make the issue and receipt of these items more user-friendly by avoiding the need to queue at Main Reception during the busiest times of the day.

The present system used for the booking of equipment etc. will remain unchanged. The telephone extension numbers for LRS also remain the same.

The main items affected by this change will be loan equipment Slide Projector keys, video and microphone keys, Fixed PC lectern keys for lecture theatres which have this facility and keys for John Stanley Bell Theatre.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you wish to discuss these arrangements.

Living Pretty by Ray Brown / Normal Productions

Life is good and life is hell and it the same life. Sometime you choose how you see it, sometime there is no choice . . .'

Some people stay with you forever. Alfred Williams was like that. A dedicated truant ('me school was up a tree'), Alfred was a wise man who maintained an admirable air of dignity and wicked sense of humour throughout a long, eventful life.

You'll leave the theatre feeling good, and you'll never forget Living Pretty. Everal A. Walsh plays eighteen characters in this seriously funny new biographical play which takes the audience from Jamaica to England and is peppered with laughter and tears. Pauline Tomlin sings.
