If you have any friends or family that are thinking about University why not bring them along too. There will be the opportunity to have a campus tour, visit the School of Management and the School of Health Studies, speak to Admissions Tutors and staff about the courses offer, and speak to current students who are at the University.

Full details are available on the Open Day website at: www.brad.ac.uk/openday/

Staff are also asked to add a note into their email footer for the rest of this week which reads:

Introduction of ModCat II

The introduction of the new student information system, SAINT, has resulted in some changes to the ModCat system. ModCat will close down on the 30th July 2002 and ModCat II will come on line in Mid August. ASSU will be running a series of open access workshops in J22 Richmond Building on the following days to help people get used to the updated system.

  • Tuesday 20th August 2pm - 4pm
  • Thursday 22nd August 10am - 12noon
  • Friday 30th August 10am - 12noon

These will not be formal training events, just informal drop in sessions which will give you the opportunity to come and have a look at ModCat II, try it out and then ask any questions that you may have. You may stay as long as you wish, but because the two systems are so similar it is envisaged that it will only take you 15 to 20 minutes to become familiar with the new process.

If you would like to attend one of these sessions please mail Bharti Mistry in the ASSU General Office, b.mistry@bradford.ac.uk. You do not have to specify what time you want to come, just the fact that you will be attending.

Migration of Data to SAINT and Existing Work In Progress Files

The last of the new and amended data held on ModCat will be uploaded to ISIS over night on the 31st July and migration of the module data from the ISIS database to SAINT will begin on the 1st August. When ModCat shuts down any new or amended descriptors that you have saved as work in progress files in ModCat (i.e. descriptors you are working on but have not yet sent to the Authoriser) will be deleted.

If you have modules under development which are not ready to send for Authorisation by the 30th July I would suggest that you save the descriptor to your server area and then cut and paste the information into the new ModCat system when it comes on line around mid August.

Any queries about this matter should be directed to your Academic Standards Administrator in ASSU

Change to Deadlines for Submitting Changes to Units and New Units via ModCat

The formal University deadline for submitting proposals for new units and changes to units is the 31st of July 2002. In Lynn McVey's memo to Deans, Associate Deans and School Administrators of the 29th May 2002 we asked that ideally proposals for new and amended units be submitted to ASSU no later than the first 2 weeks in July to allow time for the SAINT migration. Now that we have an even clearer picture of the form migration will take, it is necessary to bring the formal deadline forward.

  • The deadline for sending new modules to your ModCat Authoriser is now the 29th of July 2002.
  • The deadline for sending amended modules to your ModCat Authoriser is now the 30th July 2002.

If this change causes difficulties please contact your ASSU representative who will discuss the situation in more detail and try to accommodate your requirements.

If you have comments or queries about the introduction of ModCat II please feel free to contact Amanda Huggon on ext: 3027 or via email, a.j.huggon@bradford.ac.uk
