Secret Santa - Urgent Request for Gifts

This year the University of Bradford Union has accepted an invitation to be involved in a 'Secret Santa' project. The project aims to collect gifts for the local community and give them to people who may not receive presents at this time of year. We are appealing to staff and students of the University to donate gifts and hand them in to the Students' Union (Communal Building). Alternatively, you can ring ext 3278 or ext 3284 and we will collect. These will then be wrapped and distributed to our chosen community groups.

The kinds of things we would like are:

  • Food Items (please make sure they have a valid sell by date on) which will be made into hampers for the elderly and housebound.
  • Children's Toys (new or second-hand but clean and in good condition) for children of varying ages.
  • Goody Bags for 16 to 25 year-olds who are either care leavers or estranged from their families; to include toiletries, perfumes, chocolates and books.
  • Plus gift wrap, to wrap the items up in.

Our community groups are: Bradford Foyer - Residential Accommodation for young homeless people (16-25 yrs of age), Odsal Community Centre - Elderly and Housebound, and Sutton Community Association - Mother & Toddler Group. Thank you for the responses that we have received to date, however, we are still very short of our original target.

For further information contact: Deborah Cawley, Sports & Societies Administrator, University of Bradford Union, ext: 3284, email: d.l.cawley@bradford.ac.uk or Caroline Chambers, UCAN Volunteer Co-ordinator, University of Bradford Union, ext: 3278, email: c.chambers1@bradford.ac.uk

Children's Christmas Party 2002

The Christmas Party for children (up to about 14 years of age) will be held in the Communal Building on Saturday 7th December 2002 from 14.30 to 17.30.

Children and grandchildren of all staff and students of the University will be welcome. Due to the generous sponsorship of the University catering suppliers the cost has been kept to £3.50 per child. Children should be taken to main reception in the communal building preferably between 14.15 and 14.30, and thence to the main dance area. The younger (less than 8) and older children will then have separate activities in the first instance.

The session will cover how to access the journals, their various authentication methods, saving the information and a look at SFX, the newly introduced method of linking from databases to electronic journals and other resources.
