Discretionary Pay Exercise 2001/2002 - Rewarding & Developing People (All Staff) Details of this years Discretionary Pay Exercise will be circulated to Deans of Schools/Heads of Planning Units/Heads of Departments shortly. All Deans/HoPU's and HoD's will be asked to ensure that all their staff are made aware of the details of the exercise. Staff should especially note that this years exercise will be devolved to the Schools/Planning Units to ensure that recognition is given to staff 'locally'. Funding was set in the 2001/02 budget for this exercise before the proposed 'devolved' arrangements were developed and an allocation was retained centrally to cover this exercise. In addition the University has allocated a significant additional allocation (£200k) of the HEFCE funding earmarked for implementing the first stage of the "Rewarding and Developing Staff in Higher Education" initiative for the 2001/02 exercise. We need your stamps Shirley Moorhouse in the Students' Union Advice Centre would like to ask all staff to save their stamps from the festive season and overseas to go towards Guide Dogs for the visually impaired. Refectory opening throughout December Please note that from Monday 3rd December 2001 the staff refectory in the Richmond Building is only available for Christmas lunch bookings. Normal service will resume in the New Year. A Christmas menu will also be on offer the week commencing 10th December 2001 in the main refectory. No booking is required. Appraiser Refresher - Tuesday
18th December 2001, 9am - 12noon For those who have been on the appraiser training course at some point in the past, but would welcome the opportunity to refresh their knowledge and hear how the appraisal process fits in with recently introduced planning procedures. Appraisal is currently being implemented in a number of schools / departments. In many cases staff have already been trained, but appraisal skills have lain dormant for a number of years. If you fall into this category, or for any other reason would welcome an opportunity to reacquaint yourself with the appraisal process, then the Staff Development Unit is now in a position to offer an afternoon's refresher course. It will cover:
