New PPAA website, from Tracy Marshall

The Personnel, Planning and Academic Administration (PPAA) Web Group has been busy over the summer months preparing an all new departmental web site. This can be accessed at www.brad.ac.uk/admin/PPAA

It provides a central reference point for the six division web sites that make up the Department's presence on the University Intranet. The division web sites (Academic Standards and Support Unit, Health and Safety, Personnel, Planning, Staff Development and Student Registry) have also had a face-lift to reflect the University's corporate image.

It is hoped that the new web sites will provide an improved service for users and a more joined up approach for the six divisions. For PPAA staff there is also the Noticeboard, which it hoped will be used by all staff to communicate within the department.

The web group would be pleased to receive your comments on the PPAA and division sites. Please contact Tracy Marshall (t.marshall1@bradford.ac.uk ext 3111) or the individual Division Web Master.

F.C.O. Research Project, “Community Perceptions Of Forced Marriage”, from Nigget Rehman, Applied Social Sciences

The above research is being carried out by Dr. Yunas Samad in the Applied Social Science Dept. and is funded by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. It is a follow up on the “Forced Marriage Report”. Essentially, we want to hear the opinions of different members of the Pakistani community in Bradford and want to hear what they feel to be central issues. Either Yunis Alam or myself (research assistants) are looking to conduct group interviews of at least 8 female Pakistani staff members and 8 male Pakistani staff members as soon as possible. If you fit into this category we would appreciate your assistance and very grateful if you could get in touch.

Please note, all information will remain strictly anonymous and confidential. If you would like to participate or require further information I can be contacted on 07810 104378 or e-mail: niggetrehman@hotmail.com

Deadlines for New Course/Course Unit Proposals and Changes to Existing Courses and Units, From Alan Waton, Pro-Vice-Chancellor

Deadlines for the submission to Course Approval and Review Teams (CARTs) of proposals for new courses/course units and for changes to existing courses/course units have been changed with effect from the 2001/2002 academic session.

The purpose of the deadlines is to:

  • help ensure the high quality of all taught programmes and units;
  • provide students with equal access to accurate information about their programmes and units;
  • ensure the accuracy of resource allocation information, examination timetables and the module catalogue;
  • respond to the requirements of external quality assessment and audit.

All staff involved in submitting such proposals to CARTs are urged to comply with the deadlines as far as possible, to ensure that we continue the significant improvement which has been achieved over the last three academic sessions.

  • Detailed proposals for new courses should be submitted in time for the final meeting of the relevant CART (normally in early May 2002)
  • Proposals for major changes to existing courses/course units and for new course units which raise issues of strategy and/or policy should be submitted in time for the final meeting of the relevant CART (normally in early May 2002)
  • Proposal for new course units which are routine and do not raise issues of strategy and/or policy can be approved by Chairpersons' Action and should be submitted by 31st July 2002 for consideration by the Chairperson of the appropriate CART and the Chairperson of the Academic Policy Committee.
  • Minor changes to courses/course units will continue to be dealt with by Chairpersons' Action and should be submitted by 31st July 2002 for consideration by the Chairperson of the appropriate CART and the Chairperson of the Academic Policy Committee.

For further details of what constitutes non-routine and routine new course units please refer to the University's Handbook for the Approval of New Courses and Units and Changes to Existing Courses and Units or contact your Academic Standards Administrator (see www.brad.ac.uk./admin/acsec)

A full list of dates of the CARTs is included on the University's Year Planner, which has already been widely circulated and is also available on the web at www.brad.ac.uk.admin/acsec/assu/year_planner.html
