New. Transparency Review (TR) Return and Full Economic Costing (fEC)

Message to all Staff Undertaking the TR Diary Exercise in the Schools of Management and Life Sciences from Professor Jeff Lucas (Deputy Vice-Chancellor)

Please can all relevant staff in the above schools ensure that they submit their confidential diary information in a timely manner to the Transparency Office.

Response rates for the first three diary weeks (that have taken place this academic year) have caused concern, to the degree that this exercise is now compulsory. A listing of staff who fail to respond will be sent to their respective Deans soon after each diary week.

Confidentiality of the actual diary information submitted by individuals will still be strictly maintained and it will not be used for any purpose other than completing the annual TR Return.

Low levels of response to the diary exercise will not only call into question the whole validity of the TR data that is returned but will also prevent the University from applying on a Full Economic Cost (fEC) basis for research grant applications to the Research Councils (and other research sponsors) from September 2005.

This will effectively cost the University money under the new funding regime that will apply from that date.

Many thanks to all staff that have submitted their returns in a timely and conscientious manner.

If you have any technical problems or queries in submitting the TR information, please do not hesitate to contact either Mr Tara Singh Bhogal (T.S.Bhogal@bradford.ac.uk) on extension 3139 or Mrs Pat Roberts (P.W.Roberts@bradford.ac.uk) on extension 5777 in the Transparency Office.

Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

Professor Jeff Lucas
Deputy Vice-Chancellor

New. Travel Expense Claims

The new TEX, Travel Expenses Claim form and the TAP, Travel Approval and Advance form have now been in use since January 2005. We have been accepting the old forms TE1, TE3 and TE4 but as from the 1 April 2005 we will only be accepting the new forms and will return any claims made on the old forms.

The new forms can be downloaded from the Finance website http://www.brad.ac.uk/admin/finance/private/forms.htm or a supply can be obtained from Room D1, Finance Office in the Richmond Building.

We would also like to point out that on the travel policy (http://www.brad.ac.uk/admin/purchasing/uni/travel-policy.php) it states the travel claim forms "should be submitted within one month of incurring the expense if there has been no advance payment. Where an advance payment had been made they must be submitted within 15 days of completing the journey."

We have recently received travel claims that date back as far as 2003. This is not acceptable and travel claims that are submitted beyond the limit of one month without a valid reason may be returned to your department.

If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact either Angela Sowerbutts (ext 5049) or Kathy Bakes (ext 5742) in the Finance Office.

Busy Bees will be holding an informal forum for parents not using the University Nursery on Thursday the 28th of April in F33 (the old staff refectory) of the Richmond Building. Please drop in to discover more about the scheme between 12 noon and 2 pm.

The start date for both schemes is anticipated as the 1st of June 2005.

*Andrew Whamond - Retrospective

Friday 4 March - Friday 15 April 2005
Weekdays 11am-5pm (except Thursdays until 6pm) | free

"Each of my works seeks to identify and isolate a particular aspect of what it is to be human, and to intensify that perceived state through the process of painting, intertwining elements of personal history into a symbolic language of the body.

"Every work is a representational painting of an abstract emotion, visualised using one or more experienced situations drawn from memory, but sometimes using empirical sources to fulfil the emotional resonance of the subject."

Andrew Whamond This exhibition is presented with the aim of showing the development of, and the engagement with, the subject over a period of years,1984-2005.
