New Internal Investors in People (IiP) web-site: www.brad.ac.uk/admin/staffdev/IiP/, from Helen Crabtree, Staff Development The site includes general information about Investors in People, the IiP standards, background documentation to the University's commitment to IiP, and plans for institutional assessment in June/July 2001. There is a list of departmental Facilitators, who are useful contacts for gaining information about progress in individual areas. Contact details for the IiP Coordinator and members of the IiP Project Group are also listed. There are some useful external links and an example of good practice in MIS where, to aid people's understanding of where the indicators fit with their area practices, the indicators are being linked to local documentation/information. Could I please make a special request that, where appropriate, departments/units make a link to the IiP site from their own web-site to raise awareness of its existence so staff have easy access to the information and can familiarise themselves with what gaining IiP recognition involves. To suggest additions or changes or to request documentation in alternative formats, please contact the Staff Development Unit: staffdev@bradford.ac.uk, ext. 3102, room E5, Richmond Building.
New staff development programme, from Helen Crabtree, Staff Development On 18 June the Staff Development Unit will be meeting to discuss the programme for September 2001 - July 2002. We are aware that some of you may have experienced disappointment when staff development courses are run on days that are not convenient with your hours of work. It would be helpful to us if you could let us know which courses you may like to attend during the 2001/2002 period and on which days of the week you would like the events to take place. Lists of courses and when they usually run are available through our web-site at: www.brad.ac.uk/admin/staffdev/progrms.html. There will be some changes of events this year, but nothing substantial. We cannot promise to deliver the right answer for all respondents, but will take them into account when we set the course dates at our meeting on 18 June. The final list of events will be published in July/August 2001. Please respond by Wednesday 13 June; email: staffdev@bradford.ac.uk, ext. 3102, room E5, Richmond Building

Guidelines for Assessment Committees and Boards of Examiners 2000/2001 session, from Ellen Grimshaw, ASSU The information pack which is circulated annually to help staff prepare for meetings of Assessment Committees and Boards of Examiners is now available in Departmental Offices. The guidance documents derive from the University's Regulations and Procedures, which always take precedence over the guidelines where there is any apparent discrepancy. All Regulatory documents referred to in the pack are available on the Web at: www.brad.ac.uk/admin/acsec/QAHbk/QA0Frame1.html (Section 5) Please note that this year, in view of financial constraints, the pack is not automatically being circulated to all members of academic staff. In an effort to target recipients more effectively, Departmental Secretaries/Administrators are being sent five copies, to distribute to key staff involved in the Boards of Examiners process within Departments. If you have any queries about the regulations, the information pack or the operation of Assessment Committees and Boards of Examiners, assistance can be obtained from the appropriate contact person in ASSU for your School.
New External University website, from Claire Gibbons, Corporate Communications The University's website has had a makeover with its new external face launched in May. Anyone accessing the University's website from off campus will see the new page - internal users will continue to see the existing home page. However, there are links between the two. The internal website is currently being redeveloped by Web Administrator, Ruth Whitfield, of the Learning Support Services' Computer Centre. If you have any comments about the new site please email: content-manager@bradford.ac.uk, or tel: ext. 6529. The website will always be developing and changing and the views of staff and students will help to shape its future. Further details are available in the June edition of News & Views.
Research Supervision Workshop, from Helen Crabtree, Staff Development. Thursday - Friday, 28 - 29 June, 2001: 9.15 am - 9.30pm on 28th & 9.15 am - 4.00pm on 29th. This course is designed for new research supervisors and also for established supervisors wishing to reflect on their practice and share their experience. The 2-day programme is open to all academic and academic-related staff, with optional complimentary accommodation at Heaton Mount. The Thursday evening session is followed by a Social Event in the Garden Room Bar. The Workshop is accredited as a stand-alone Module with 10 points at level 3 and at Master's level. Numbers are limited. It is based on a series of small-group Workshops discussing Case Studies in research supervision, with plenary presentations by each group to all delegates, together with a session on interactive role-play for questioning/listening skills, and a minimum of formal presentations. This course is an effective way to meet and network with colleagues from across the University and compare notes. Overnight residence at Heaton Mount is optional. The Workshop is presented by 15 academic staff and is co-ordinated by Prof. Tony Fell. Further information is available on the web at: www.brad.ac.uk/research/pgcourses/rschsuper.html If you would like to attend, please either call us on ext. 3102, e-mail us at: staffdev@bradford.ac.uk, or complete the on-line booking form at: http://www.brad.ac.uk/research/pgcourses/rschsuper.html
