Sustainable Events

The University of Bradford supports the Ecoversity Programme, which aims to embed the principles and practice of sustainable development across the entire institution by getting people involved and encouraging and making it easier for people to adopt sustainable behaviours and lifestyles.

Sustainability is therefore high on Bradford Conferencing's agenda and we are proud to work in partnership with the Ellen McArthur Foundation (EMF).  In 2010 we hosted the EMF Ten+One Conference which provided a master class on Closed Loop Thinking, an ethos which Bradford Conferencing embraces and promotes.

We seek to ensure that all our events promote and support the wider principles of Ecoversity. Our principles for the delivery of sustainable events include:

• Our buildings, such as the Norcroft Centre with its green roof, have unique sustainability features designed to lower carbon footprints.
• We work closely with our catering suppliers to ensure that the use of crockery, cutlery and glasses minimises waste from disposables.
• We promote jugs of tap water rather than bottled water.
• Fair-trade coffee and tea served in jugs rather than automatic coffee machines.
• Where possible we use regional and seasonal produce in meals and make sure that that all sandwiches and salads are made on site reducing food miles. 
• We encourage people attending events to car share or use public transport.
• Our Audio Visual equipment has been purchased especially for the low levels of wattage used, especially on standby.

Bradford Conferencing has embraced ‘Green Impact’ a national environmental accreditation scheme. Green Impact moves green programmes to their next level by developing a creative strategy that directly engages staff and positions sustainability as a key driver of innovation and institutional competitive advantage.
