English Language

General English Language Requirements

If your first language is not English, you will need to provide proof of your English proficiency before you can be admitted onto any of our undergraduate or postgraduate courses. We accept the following qualifications which are available internationally:

The IELTS and TOEFL tests are the most common, but there are other English language qualifications which may be accepted. For example, the University of Bradford also recognises:

*Students wishing to apply for the MA Peace Studies or any postgraduate courses in the School of Management (MSc, MBA) should have a minimum of IELTS 6.5; TOEFL 580 (paper-based); TOEFL 240 (computer-based) or TOEFL 94 (internet-based).

English Language Programmes

If you need help with your English or want to build your confidence before starting your main study programme, you can study at Bradford in the summer for 6 or 10 weeks on a Pre-Sessional English course or even attend a full IELTS preparation programme. Please visit our Language Centre for further details on our English Language programmes.

English Language Support During Your Studies

The University of Bradford offers free English classes to all registered overseas students. These classes are designed to support you in your studies at Bradford by helping you with the English skills that you will need for your course. You can take an assessment on arrival at the University which places you in a suitable class level. Please visit our Language Centre for further details.
