Bradford Foundation Year

Full-time or Part-time

The Bradford Foundation Year has been specifically designed to offer a route onto degree courses. It is appropriate for you if you have not gained the results you were expecting, if you feel you are not ready for degree-level study yet, or are returning to study and feel you need some help to get up to speed with the demands of learning before embarking on a degree.

Our flexible approach means you can study as either a part-time or a full-time student. By the end of the programme you will be prepared, confident and ready to tackle the demands of undergraduate degree studies. What's more, once you have successfully completed this foundation programme you can then move onto the first year of a wide range of degree programmes at the University of Bradford.

The programme will also be available at (External) Craven College in Skipton. For details you can contact Craven College Student Services on 01756 693860/708009. Some modules are available at community venues in Bradford.

Course Structure

At this introductory level, as well as your chosen subject areas, you will study a range of core modules; these are modules that all students must study and you will find them essential for the successful completion of your course. You will learn how to study, write for academic purposes, find and use information, revise, manage your study time and improve your numeracy and Information Technology skills.

An important aspect of the programme is the Claphamresidential. This is a three-day residential for all students at the beginning of the first semester. This student-led experience will help you to develop skills and confidence with working in groups and help you to develop friendships with other students on the course.

In addition to this core provision, you will study your chosen modules from a series of options. Once you have successfully completed the Foundation, you may be able to move directly onto the first year of a variety of degree programmes, including the Combined Studies BA/BSc (Hons).

University in the Community

A number of modules from the Bradford Foundation Year are also delivered off-campus. Recently we have taught classes in a wide variety of settings including schools and other community venues . Classes are organised to fit in with the demands of parents with school-age children. We are delighted that students accessing these courses often go on to take up places on degree programmes at the University of Bradford.

Progression

Upon successfully completing the foundation programme you can move directly onto the BA/BSc (Hons) degree programme in Combined Studies or transfer onto one of a variety of degree programmes including:

Some courses provide progression that is not automatic upon completion of the foundation programme. These courses accept students who complete the foundation programme and who are also successful in the selection process for the course. These courses are:

Please note that progression to some degrees may be dependent on module choices and/or overall achievement on the programme. The Course Leader will advise you about the necessary module choices for your chosen progression route.

Admission Requirements

All applicants will need to demonstrate drive and commitment as well as an adequate level of English and Mathematics. For mature students there are no specific requirements for formal qualifications (a Mature Student is defined as someone who, having taken a break from education and who currently possesses significant relevant experience and/or non-traditional qualifications, now seeks to enter Higher Education) . However, for other students for the full-time course we expect a minimum level of academic achievement such as an AVCE double award at DD or above, or two A levels at D grade. We particularly welcome applicants with appropriate vocational awards in subjects that form part of a programme such as an Advanced Apprenticeship in Business Administration
