Nightwatchman software installed to combat 41% of computers which are left on, stands to save £29,000 in first year.
Ecoversity E&F Web Banner
The installation of Nightwatchman is a collaboration project between Estates and Learner Support Services to reduce energy waste and decrease carbon emissions from PCs that are not being used.
The University's ambitious Carbon Management Plan and sustainability vision to reduce it's emissions by 50% by 2020. The installtion of this software will help the University save approximately £29,000 in the first year.
NightWatchman helps track when PCs are left on out of normal working hours. The sophisticated software help to see where and when energy wastage is occurring. More than that, it actively and automatically shuts those machines down saving unnecessary energy use. Along with other carbon reduction projects and intiatives we hope this year to report a step change reduction in our carbon emissions.
School of Health Studies BREEAM Certificate
Our School of Health Studies building (Horton A) recieved it's BREEAM certificate today. It is officially rated at Very Good. BREEAM (Building Research Estasblishment
Environmental Assessment Method)
is a measure of a buildings sustainability.
BREEAM ratings are very difficult to achieve in refurbishment projects, therefore to comfortably secure a 'Very Good' rating is no mean achievement, in what was effectively a two thirds refurbishment project. The £9 million (4,000m 2 ) part refurbishment, part new build opened in September 2011 and enabled the relocation the School of Health Studies from a tired off site location to a prime site on the City Campus.
The building has been shortlisted in the RICS Pro-Yorkshire Awards 2012 in the Design and Innovation category and the winner will be announced at an awards ceremony on 4 May 2012.
