Visitors at the Open Day. Research Open Day

Students and organisations from across the region were invited to find out more about research in areas of science at a special University Open Day.

The research areas drew on the University's expertise in a range of fields, including biomedical sciences, cancer research, optometry and pharmacy. The areas included: cancer research; skin and hair follicle biology; pathological and physiological mechanism; visual neuroscience; optics and ageing; drug development; drug delivery; and drug management.

The Open Day helped would-be research students decide whether Bradford is the right place for them. Visitors had the opportunity to speak to research supervisors, current students and administrative staff. They were able to enjoy short presentations from research leaders and postgraduate students and see poster presentations of current research.

Organisations invited to the event were given the opportunity to see examples of international quality research and to discuss how the University can provide support for research collaboration, product development and manufacture in the bioscience and chemical fields.

Businesses and other interested parties were also shown plans for the University's purpose-built multi-million pound research unit, the Institute of Pharmaceutical Innovation .

The University's School of Life Sciences , which hosted the event, has 18 research studentships in the above areas to home and EU-based students. Students will need to hold, or expect to hold, a 2:1 Honours degree, or equivalent, in an appropriate science-based subject.
