Two space experts from Russia will be landing in Bradford next week to speak to youngsters about extra-terrestrial exploration.
The University of Bradford ’s John Stanley Bell lecture theatre will host around 150 students from schools and sixth forms across the Bradford district at 1.30pm on Tuesday 5 December 2006 to see Alexander Martynov (Head of the Foreign Relations Department in Russia) and Alexander Volkov (Russian Cosmonaut).
The pair will be speaking about their experiences working for the Russian space programme over the years, and also about the manned mission to Mars planned for 2030.
This intergalactic visit to the University of Bradford is part of a larger tour of the region involving visits to schools, a lecture at the Bradford’s National Media Museum and a civic reception with the City’s Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress.
It has been organised by Bradford’s Children’s University,
an organisation supported by the University of Bradford, Bradford Vision
and the Bradford & District Learning Partnership, which aims to increase
aspirations amongst young people in the area and hopefully inspire them
to further and higher education.
Sophia Khan, Children’s University Co-ordinator, said: “This
visit is a fantastic opportunity for young people in the district to learn
about space science from two people who really know what its like.
“The Children’s University is heavily involved in giving pupils interesting and diverse learning opportunities, and they don’t get much more interesting than space travel!”
