Students on the Headstart Course. Sixth-form students put their creative minds to the test when they designed and built a house during the Headstart Residential Course. Headstart is organised by the Royal Academy of Engineering for high achieving students.
It offers participants the chance to gain hands-on experience in Engineering, Design and Technology and gives them an insight into what professional engineers do, the different engineering disciplines available as career options and a taste of University life.
During the course students took part in a range of social activities including a formal dinner, teambuilding games and a visit to Filtronics in Saltaire. They were asked to be creative by working on a variety of hands-on design and build projects and they had the chance to pick the brains of academic staff from across the School of Engineering, Design & Technology in a question and answer session.
Course Organiser Joanne Crowther said: "We have been running this course at Bradford for several years now, and those selected to take part are some of the brightest sixth-formers in the country in the areas of science and maths. They often go on to follow careers in the area of engineering."
