Food Ripe for the Picking!

The Estates and Facilities edible planting policy is starting to come to fruition thanks head gardener Richard Cook and his team.

You can now find gooseberries and blackcurrants ripe and ready to be eaten in the bed at the end of the Longside car park on the boundary with Shearbridge Road.

The orchard outside the Longside Entrance of Student Central which contains fruit trees including apple, pear and green gage will be ready later in the year. But if you can't wait that long there are also herbs including Parsley, Oregano, Rosemary and Sage ready for picking there now.

If you would like to take advantage of the free natural produce please be careful that you do not damage plants and make sure you know what you are eating - go with someone who knows if you're not sure.

All studentsand staff are invited to consider nominating individuals for the award of honorary degrees of the University.

If you would like to propose an honorary graduate please use the form provided on the website: http://www.bradford.ac.uk/hub/AwardCeremonies/Honorary_Degrees/

Further details with regard to current policy and associated guidelines can also be found on the same site. Please note that if you nominate an honorary you do not have to provide the oration.

The completed form should be sent under confidential cover to Claire Cuvier, Student Administration and Support, The Hub by Monday 9 September 2011. Nominations received after this date can be considered at a meeting of the Committee to be held next academic year.

Please note only nominations completed on the official form will be considered by the committee.

If you are interested in putting a name forward and would find it helpful to discuss the case further before doing so please contact Claire Cuvier on ext: 5015 or email c.m.cuvier@bradford.ac.uk

As you will no doubt appreciate it is most important that any persons nominated for an honorary degree should not be made aware that there was any possibility of such an award being conferred upon them.

Message from Linda Whitehead

I would like to thank all friends and colleagues for their good wishes, flowers and presents that I received on leaving the University. I have met some lovely people and made many friends over the 36 years I have worked at the University, and I shall remember my time as a member of staff and a student of Local and Regional Studies with much affection. I shall think of you all when playing my music on the mini-hifi and CD player (and when looking at my watch; something which I need not do quite so often in the future)!

Works on campus

Cleaning of Richmond Building exterior

The external stone work to the Great Hall and Richmond Link Block is currently being cleaned by contractors.

It is possible that the work could be noisy at times, though the work will be carried out from mobile elevated platforms which will be segregated from pedestrians.

A temporary water supply will be provided via a secured hosepipe through the Great Horton entrance doors. Work is expected to be completed this Friday, 12 August.

Disruption to Cold Water Supply to the Atrium

The mains cold water within the Richmond Link will be disconnected from 4.30pm on Monday 8 August for approximately 1 hour whilst modifications are carried out to the system. This will affect the atrium coffee bar and female toilet area on level C. During the work the cold water services to these areas will be interrupted.

The isolation valves to undertake this work are located on the narrow link corridor of level E leading to the small hall. Whilst the valves are being shut off and opened access through this area will be restricted.

We apologise for any inconvenience this work may cause during these improvement works.
