Vice Chancellor, Professor Mark Cleary, said: "The University of Bradford joins its students in concern over the escalating violence in the Gaza strip and Southern Israel.

"The University condemns violence wherever it occurs and wishes to express its commitment to the principles of peace, justice and the rule of international law.

In response to the actions the students wish the University to carry out, the University has already:

• Sent a message of sympathy to all staff and students at the University who might be affected by recent events in Gaza and advising where support is available within the University
• Communicated a statement about the strong ethical guidelines that inform our investment strategy
• Set up payment facilities for disaster relief to the Disasters Emergency  Committee , for their Gaza appeal, within the University
• Set in train a process for consultation involving staff and students  to consider which suppliers for food and drink should be contracted by the University

"Following further discussion with the students the University has pledged to:

• Write to Lloyds Bank to seek an explanation of policy regarding banking facilities for Interpal
• Include the on-going issue of revisions to our ethical investment policy at the University's Investment Committee
• Provide a list of companies for whom we hold shares in our investment portfolio
• Explore the feasibility of a twinning link with the Islamic University of Gaza subject to the usual due diligence that has to be done by any UK University in formalising such links.
• Consider form of support for the students in financial difficulty as a consequence of the events in Gaza."
