Undergraduate Bursaries at Bradford - 2009/10

The University of Bradford Bursary Scheme - giving more support to more students

It is important to make the support application to your Local Authority, even if you don’t intend to take out a tuition fee loan or a student loan. You may be eligible to receive the non-repayable Maintenance Grant , and we need to know your income assessment to be able to pay your University of Bradford Bursary.

A bursary is a type of financial support, usually linked to income, that you don’t need to pay back. According to the Government, if you receive the full Maintenance Grant and you are on a course charging the full £3,225 fee, you may also be eligible for at least £319 in financial support from your university or college, which may take the form of a Bursary. Some students will get more than this, so it will be important to speak to the university or college that you are applying to and find out what it offers.

As a full-time undergraduate student (Home and EU) you are entitled to a Bursary from the University of Bradford if you are eligible to receive any level of maintenance grant or if your family's residual income (the gross income with deductions for pension payments and other dependant children) is under £60,032 a year. The Student Finance Service will assess your income when you apply for your Maintenance Grant and Student Loan. You must give them all the evidence they ask you to provide and we cannot award a bursary until all your evidence has been verified. When you complete your student support application form you will need to allow the Student Loans Company to release your information, so that they in turn can tell the University if you are eligible for a Bursary - please read carefully Section 13 on the application form . You will not need to fill in any additional forms to receive your Bursary and the payment will be made to you automatically around the 18th of March each year provided, that you attend all the compulsory elements of your course (as defined by your area of study). For any given academic year we will not award bursaries after the 31st of July - this means that you must sort out your application for financial support and consent to share your information before this date, as even if you are eligible we will not be able to make your payment after this date.

If you are eligible you will receive:

Year of study

Income up to £40,000

Income between £40,001 and £60,032

First Year

This bursary package is for new students starting in 2009/10 only. Students who have started courses prior to September 2008 will be under the previous bursary scheme and will be eligible to receive a bursary if their family income is up to £39,333 a year.

We've structured the Bursary payments in this way because our students tell us that it is helpful to have additional support in the final years of a course when you're busy thinking about projects, dissertations and exams. Some students will be doing programmes longer than 3 years or will have a placement year as part of their course.
