Part-time students - 2011 entry

Help from the Government

There is support available from the Government if you choose to study part-time. The amount of grant you can receive depends on your income and the percentage of full-time study that you complete in that year. An annual course grant towards the cost of studying will also be available to low-income students. The levels of grants and eligible incomes for 2011 entry are shown in the table below:

Part-time students are not eligible for any bursaries, but additional money from the Access to Learning Fund will be targeted at these students and can help towards tuition fees. This will be known as the Additional Fee Support Scheme (AFSS) for part-time undergraduates . The University has the discretion to contribute towards any outstanding fee obligations for part-time students who are studying 60 credits (at least 50% of a full-time course - with some exceptions for disabled students who cannot study at this rate). Support will be targeted at students from low income backgrounds who are already receiving fee grants from the Government. However, other students may be eligible for this support if the University feels it would enable them to remain on their course. Part-time EU students who meet the criteria may also be eligible for the AFSS.

For further information go to the (External) part-time section of the Directgov website (external link, will open in a new window).
