    Definitions

The University of Bradford is currently in the process of harmonising its terms and conditions of employment. In some cases, terms and conditions have been harmonised for all staff; in other cases it has been necessary, following negotiation, to harmonise terms and conditions within each individual grade.

A small number of terms and conditions have not yet been harmonised. Where this is the case employees will be directed to the information contained in the letter of appointment and the statement of main terms and conditions of employment.

Where terms and conditions differ according to grade it will be stated in bold below the main section heading.

Where the Staff Information section refers to staff on grades 1-10 it is referring to staff who are employed on a grade on the 52-point pay spine.

Where the Staff Information section refers to Academic Staff it is referring to staff who are employed on grades 8, 9 and 10 and have Lectureship, Senior Lectureship and Readership contracts of employment (but does not include staff employed on Research Contracts).

Where the Staff Information section refers to Senior Staff it is referring to staff who are employed on Professorial contracts of employment and staff employed on the Senior Management Grade.

Where the Staff Information section refers to 'Dean of School' it is understood that for non-academic areas of the University (i.e. Corporate Services) the equivalent authority is the Director.

In some cases, particular arrangements apply to one category of staff but not others (e.g. probationary arrangements for academic staff, shift patterns and enhanced payment for manual staff). Where such stipulations apply this will be stated in bold below the main section heading.
