SCONUL Access Scheme

This has replaced the SCONUL Research Extra (SRX) and UK Libraries Plus (UKLP) Schemes. It provides borrowing access for most:

The SCONUL Access cards are issued by your home University. The University of Bradford offers access to all SCONUL Access cardholders. Once you have your card, please bring it in along with your student card. Please check our opening times before travelling. For maps and directions please see our Getting to Bradford page.

Please note that we cannot give access to electronic resources to SCONUL Access members.

SCONUL Vacation Access Scheme

Under the terms of the SCONUL Access Scheme researchers from other institutions whose libraries are members of the scheme may have access to the University Library. Access to electronic databases are not included in this scheme. Students will need to present their valid library/ID card at the Security desk in the J.B. Priestley Building or relevant library counter. Please see the University of Bradford Libraries page for opening hours, contact details and directions.

Graduates of the University of Bradford

Alumni of the University are automatically entitled to reference and study use of the Library after leaving the University.

Graduates who wish to apply for a reference card should go to the Welcome Desk in the J.B. Priestley Building and complete an application form. There is no charge for reference access. If borrowing is required, there is a charge of £35.00 per year which will allow two books to be borrowed at any one time. Please ask at the Welcome Desk for further information.

NB! Inter-Library Loan and IT facilities, including access to online resources are not accessible to alumni visitors.

Student from Bradford College

Students from Bradford College may not use the Library unless prior permission has been obtained by the College Director of Learning Resources, on their behalf. Where such permission has been granted the letter of authority must be produced.

Visiting the University of Bradford Library: information for non-members of the University

The University Library is a founder member of (External) b inspired , a group formed to promote library collections and materials in the district.

Members of the public may have limited access to the University Library collections as follows:

  1. European Documentation Centre: Members of the public who wish to consult documents from the European Union may do so. An appointment with the EDC Librarian, Grace Hudson (Tel: 01274 233402, g.l.hudson@bradford.ac.uk ), should be made in advance.
  2. Members of the public may consult specific books or journals to which there is no other reasonable local access. Applications should be made in advance, if possible, to the Welcome Desk ( library@bradford.ac.uk ) in order that the availability of the items can be verified.
  3. University of Bradford theses. Applications must be made in advance as collections from the thesis store are only made twice each day. Proof of name and address is required.
  4. The Commonweal Library, a collection of books, etc, relating to non-violence and social change is open to members of the public on application to the Commonweal Co-ordinator, Ellie Clement (Tel: 01274 233375, e.l.clement@bradford.ac.uk ). Proof of name and address is required.
  5. Special Collections and Archives. Applications should be made to the Special Collections Librarian, Alison Cullingford (Tel: +44 (0) 1274 235256, special-collections@bradford.ac.uk ).

Members of the public who wish to make more general use of the Library must apply in writing to the Welcome Desk, stating the reason for the request.
