The School of Health Studies (SHS) at the University of Bradford have been showcasing their research, and interactive teaching and learning opportunities as part a celebration of work between SHS and their partner collaborations.
During the celebration, keynote speaker Professor John Wright, Director of Research and Development, Bradford Teaching hospitals NHS Foundation trust, spoke of the excellent research emerging from SHS and other Schools in the University and the importance of getting this research into clinical practice.
As part of the showcase programme invited guests from external agencies were invited to take part in a number of interactive demonstrations. This included the Audio Supported Enhanced Learning (ASEL) project, funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC).
The project, a practice-based research study, looks into how audio can be used to support, enhance and personalise the student experience. Through audio technology students are given feedback on assessed work such as essays. This gives tutors the opportunity to talk in more depth about students work and record their progress. Students have also been encouraged to use audio technology to reflect on their work and record their thoughts on how to improve in practice, whilst also improving their critical thinking, listening and speaking skills.
The ASEL project has helped to identify how audio can improve learning and teaching practices and provided the opportunity for collaborative learning. Through interactive podcasts students are able to engage with scenario-based role plays where they experience what it is like to take part in work-related situations, such as a health care practitioner supporting a client undergoing diagnostic investigations.
Associate Dean for Research and Knowledge Transfer, Professor Rob Newell, said: "The showcase was a celebration some of the recent important work the School of Health Studies has undertaken, often in collaboration with partners in the NHS and other health care settings. This gave the opportunity for external partners and staff to see some of our innovative teaching initiatives."
