Top businesses meet Bangladesh Civil Servants at the University of Bradford

    4 June 09

Mr Keith Madeley, from the Yorkshire Society and other top businesses in the region will be meeting 20 Bangladesh Civil Service Officers on Friday 5 June, at the University of Bradford.

The meeting will form part of a six week experiential programme delivered by the Department of Development and Economic Studies (DES) at the University. During the meeting the Civil Servants will give a presentation about the programme and their training plans.

The programme, which started on 1 June and runs until 10 July 2009, will form part of the seven year MATT2 (Managing at the Top no. 2) Bangladesh government project. It targets fundamental reform of the Civil Service initially by enabling and empowering the top management to identify, prioritise, select and tackle reforms necessary to achieve good governance.

The visit to the University will enable the senior civil servants to identify what knowledge they need to gain from their UK experience and adapt that learning to their own context.

The training course will comprise of four weeks of classroom based sessions and a two week attachment stage, where the participants will visit organisations such as local councils. This will give them the opportunity to see reform in action.

Head of the programme, Dr John Lawler said: "We are delighted that the Bangladesh Civil Service has chosen the University as a provider of this training due to our excellent track record of working with governments from around the world."
