Chef to help Kapow! those winter blues for students

    4 February 09

Celebrity chef Kevin Woodford will help reluctant students at the University of Bradford to achieve culinary skills as part of a two day event to help combat those winter blues students may be having.

Kapow - Kevin Woodford (jpg) The event 'Kapow!' comes two weeks after the reputedly, most depressing day of the year with a view to giving students financial advice, helping them gain improved health and wellbeing and teaching them to cook cheap healthy food.

Students will also have the opportunity to make chapatis under the tuition of staff from the local vegetarian deli and restaurant Prashad. After making a chapati students will then be able to take this to the University Restaurant and claim a free curry made by Prashad restaurant's Top Chef and University Restaurant Head Chef from Sodexo .

A key highlight of the event on Wednesday will be celebrity chef Kevin Woodford hosting an interactive cooking demonstration when students will cook alongside Kevin to receive a personal master-class.

Speaking about cooking on a budget, the reluctant chef, Kevin Woodford, said: "Irrespective of how much or how little cash you've got, the key is in purchasing really good ingredients. What gives value for money is finding a shop where the ingredients are fairly priced within your budget but the quality of the ingredients is really good."

Head of Learner Development and Student Engagement, Becka Currant, said: "This is a great opportunity to engage our students and get them having fun but learning about important key life-skills at the same time.

"At a time when students might be worrying about the credit crunch, it's an exciting opportunity for our students to get financial help and to show them how they can cook on a budget but still eat healthy.

"We hope our students get a lot out of the two day event but more importantly to enjoy themselves as they settle back in to university life after the winter break and exams."
