The School of Computing, Informatics and Media at the University of Bradford have signed a franchise partnership with the Centre for Science Education at Sheffield Hallam University to bring the technology of robotic space science to the next generation of students in South Yorkshire.
Universities sign partnership to bring robotic astronomy to the next generation The University of Bradford's STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) project has already worked with over 27,000 students and 1000 teachers in primary and secondary schools across West Yorkshire - and now hopes to bring the latest robotic technology to students across the South Yorkshire.
The STEM project focuses on inspiring students to act as scientists by presenting to them a whole range of games, simulations and quizzes in order to develop their ideas about space. They are encouraged to use the Bradford Robotic Telescope in the Canary Island to test out their ideas, and like real scientists, collect data for a wide range of projects.
Dr John Baruch at the University of Bradford said: "The University is delighted to have signed a franchise partnership with the Centre of Science Education at Sheffield Hallam University. We will bring our proven expertise in robotic space science to South Yorkshire and hope to extend this knowledge to the next generation of national and international students.
"By bringing robotic space science technology to South Yorkshire, the University hopes to provide support and inspiration to teachers and students and help raise science standards across schools within the district."
Dr Stuart Bevins, Senior Research Fellow at Sheffield Hallam University said: "We are looking forward to working with the University of Bradford and hope that schools will benefit from this exciting project."
The University of Bradford is now developing other partnerships to bring inspirational education technology to the rest of England and Scotland and has made initial contacts to bring robotic astronomy to Ireland, Spain, Turkey, Poland, Germany, France, The Netherlands and China.
