Community Interpreting (module 20 credits)

Are you using your second language to interpret for people at work or for family?

Are you looking to become a qualified interpreter or set up your own interpreting business?

Then this module is for you!

Dates and duration

Introduction

This course has been designed to assist individuals with a second or third language to become qualified as a professional Community Interpreter. It is particularly useful for individuals who deliver interpreting services on a voluntary basis and who would like to formalise their experience in this area of work. The course has a focus on public sector interpreting.

Aims

This course will enable you to develop, improve and practice interpreting and translation skills. It is recognised in the Bradford District and has been developed to provide a measurable benchmark for agencies using Interpreters to assess the effectiveness of the interpreting skills.

Delivery

The course includes practical taught sessions totalling 36 hours, with guided study over a 12-week period. The course is delivered as an evening class or day time sessions. Teaching takes place on campus, in community venues, or within employers¿ premises.

Progression

On successful completion of the course you will gain 20 credits at Level 1 (which can be used towards a degree). It may allow you to progress onto the (External) Diploma in Public Sector Interpreting (delivered by Bradford College).

Fees

£350 (£150 per 10 credit module plus the examination fee)

Admissions

You must have a good command of both the English language and the language you wish to interpret in. This will be tested at the Testing Session prior to your enrolment.

Professional experience is not necessary.
