Inclement Weather: Areas to be cleared of snow or gritted in the event a cold spell

During periods of cold weather Estates and Facilities teams will be diverted to the treatment of paths, steps, roads and car parks with the aim of reducing the risk of slips and falls to University students, visitors and staff who may be trying to access the buildings on arrival at the campus or to move between buildings. It is important to remind everyone users of the campus that they have a role to play in their own safety by ensuring they wear appropriate clothing and footwear, that they pay attention to any university updates on the web and email and that they use the routes between buildings which are well used and gritted. The areas where we have prioritised our efforts towards ensuring this access is maintained are identified via the links below. Please note that due to the importance of mainaining a safe environment other services which the staff in question would have been engaged in at the start of the day may be affected/delayed but we will aim to minimise this impact wherever possible.

The work to make the areas in question safe will be started at the earliest opportunity (in some cases in the middle of the night) and whilst a number of teams from different services are involved there is still a limit to how early in the day this work can be completed. Some of the areas on campus (e.g. gritted carparks) are difficult to keep free of ice/snow and may need to be shut down if conditions deteriorate.
