    Paul Edwards, winner of Vice-Chancellor's Award

    The £500 award went to Paul Edwards from the Bradford Dementia Group at the School of Health Studies. Paul is someone who has put Bradford on the map by maintaining and developing an excellent reputation in Dementia Care.

    Business Innovation Award

    Winner of Business Innovation Award

    The main prize of £400 went to Raed Abd Alhameed from the School of Engineering, Design and Technology for his partnership with Saltaire based company Pace Plc.  This was a project to design, develop and implement multiple antenna systems.   As a result of the project the company gained new knowledge of multiple antenna design and measurement.   They have already starting shipping a new design to their customers and are considering more designs to take to market.   The panel said this project was an excellent example of real knowledge transfer between the University of Bradford and business.

    The 3 remaining shortlisted candidates were highly commended and received £200 each. These were.......

    Interdisciplinary Working Award

    Winner of Interdisciplinary Award

    The main award of £400 contribution to a celebratory team meal, went to the Bradford RCUK Science Bridges China programme, the award goes to Xiaolei Wang , Polymer Interdisciplinary Research Centre, School of Engineering.  An international collaboration with China to develop knowledge transfer, training and assistance   with commercial healthcare-related products.   The scheme combines translational research, open innovation and funded projects in drug delivery, drug discovery and advanced medical materials and interdisciplinarity is key.   The scheme involves the work of 2 Schools: Life Sciences and Engineering, Design and Technology.

    A special commendation of £100 also went t o Anant Paradkar , Centre for Pharmaceutical Engineering Science for a project also working across the Schools of Life Sciences and Engineering, Design and Technology for a new technology for the application of propolis (a glue-like substance produced by bees) in the oral hygiene market.

    Community Partnership Award

    Winner of Community Award

    The winner of £500 was Chris Wilson in UCAN, the volunteering centre in the Student's Union for Cycle re Cycle, which recycles old and unusable bikes to 'as good as new' standard and   sell to students and staff at an affordable price . This project was selected as the overall winner as it demonstrated a positive partnership that had good community reach. Although a small project at present its innovative approach means the benefits to the University (supporting its corporate values and aims), students, partner organisations and our communities is wide ranging. It was also felt that it had a strong entrepreneurial grounding, starting from very little funding and was already planning for future projects to achieve sustainability.

    Cabture, winner of Tom Ashdown award

    Robert Ives from Cabtur e.  Robert is a husband, father and passionate man, whose dreams of helping taxi drivers and supporting local businesses come together in his venture.   His company's winning formula is to use taxis to advertise local businesses using digital technology that incorporates video security.

    Winner of tom Ashdown Award, Richard Serrant

    Richard Serrant of Serrant Sport .  Richard is a University of Bradford biomedical science student whose passion for cars and driving (that started at the early age of 4) just would not go away.  After completing the Amaze Yourself Programme he joined Think Business to further advance his ¿crazy¿ idea to design a micro car into a real business proposition, supported over the summer by one of the University's Summer Experience placement students. He is now putting the finishing touches to his second generation prototype and preparing to pitch to investors.
