Athens Username and Password

Some databases and eJournals hosted off-campus require an Athens account. This account will be created automatically shortly after your computer account at Bradford. You will receive a message providing details of your Athens username and password in your University email account.

Users must comply with Athens Terms and Conditions. In particular, you must keep your account details confidential and not permit anyone else to use your login details. Any breach may result in disciplinary action against you.

Forgotten your password?

If you have forgotten your Athens password please do the following :

  1. Choose the (External) Forgotten Athens Password link.
  2. Enter your Athens username (prefix bra followed by your University username)
  3. Enter your University email address. NB! The email address is case sensitive. Use capital letters for your initials. E.g. J.E.Bloggs@student.bradford.ac.uk and NOT j.e.bloggs@student.bradford.ac.uk
  4. Choose Submit.

You will next receive an email with a link to a web page where you can choose your own password.

Never received your username and password?

If you never received or accidentally deleted your Athens username and password email, please complete the Athens account form . You account information will be emailed to you. NB! this form is not meant for Athens password reset requests. You can reset your own password as explained below.

Is your username and password not letting you log in anymore?

Occasionally our Athens login details stop working. This may happen for a number of reasons. For instance:

You will also need to check that:

It is advisable to test your login details at the (External) My Athens site to rule out any problems with your account. If you fail to login on the My Athens site, contact the University of Bradford Athens administrator to request a new password via the web form . Please note that the University's Athens administrators only work during office hours from Monday to Friday. Any requests sent in after hours, during weekends or University closure days will be dealt with during the next working day.

If your account works on the My Athens site, double-check the Library catalogue to see if the University holds a subscription to the particular eJournal or database you are trying to log in to. Seeing an Athens login box on a website does not guarantee we have a current subscription.

Changing your password

You cannot change your username.

You can change your password as follows:

  1. Log in to (External) MyAthens web site
  2. Enter the username and password that you have now and click Login.
  3. Click on the 'My Account' button.
  4. Enter your current password and the new password you would like to have. You must then enter this again in the 'Confirm password' box.
  5. Click on Submit.

There are conditions on length of password, characters allowed and so on, which are given on the screen.
