A Directorate of Corporate Services
Welcome to the University; we look forward to a long and successful association with you. Our unique mix of student and staff support services provide a rich blend of knowledge and experience to support your career and professional development. This page aims to prepare you for your first day of work. Once you arrive at Bradford, our Working at Bradford page provides more detailed information.
IT is an important aspect of daily life and whatever your career path, you will undoubtedly use IT. IT Services provide one of the highest ratios of PCs to students in the country and several innovative schemes that enable staff and students to keep the information you want at your fingertips and to communicate with your peers, whether you are working on campus or from home using Internet access. However, your day to day use of IT in your work place is the responsibility of your department/school, so your departmental Computer Officer is always your first port of call for assistance.
You will have at least four types of IT account, each with their own username and password:
Your offer of appointment should include a form for you to complete so that IT access can be set up prior to your arrival at Bradford. You will find more information and guidance on choosing a password on our usernames and passwords page.
The University supports PCs using Microsoft Office. There are a number of other systems, eg Mac, in use across the University and teaching staff are encouraged to make innovative use of technology; however, we cannot offer support for these, although IT Services staff will help where they can. Please refer to our software availability and support level pages for full details of the support you can expect.
For more information see our IT Services pages.
J. B. Priestley Library sits in the heart of the city campus. There is also a dedicated subject library at the School of Management . However, many of our services are available via the Internet 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, so you can conduct research, make reservations or renewals and look at information databases on a range of subjects whenever you choose and from wherever you are via the Internet.
Staff Development offers an induction and a variety of courses covering Health & Safety, IT, Research Support, Professional & Personal Development, and Learning & Teaching. Please note that the online Equality Unit's Diversity in the workplace module is required training for all members of staff.
Staff Development is currently negotiating frameworks to support your career and professional development through a process of personal development planning (PDP), mentoring, development activities, etc. Your progress will be reviewed annually through performance review.
The University promotes a healthy work / life balance and the Counselling Service offers a series of self-help leaflets, links to information on a range of topics, drop-in sessions and relaxation techniques to help you maintain this.
The Disability Service has a great reputation for taking a holistic approach to the needs of students and staff - providing the equipment and advice to help you get the most out of your time at University.
Our Frequently Asked Questions page will hopefully answer questions you may have. Please get in touch if you need to know more.
