Key dates in the development of the Heaton campus

1866:
Heaton Mount completed - one of the first houses to be built in the area.
1874:
The foundation stone for the neo-Gothic Emm Lane building was laid by Titus Salt on behalf of his father Sir Titus Salt, who also made a substantial donation to the building fund.

Emm Lane bought to house the Department of Industrial Administration, by the Bradford Institute of Technology (subsequently the University of Bradford) for £10,000.  A restrictive covenant prevented the site from being used as anything other than educating young men for the ministry, but legal advisers agreed that the proposed use for educational purposes was within the spirit, if not the letter, of the covenant, as some students might become ministers!
1967:
The University of Bradford acquired Heaton Mount for £35,000, to use as an executive-development centre.
1972:
The Cartwright Building was completed.
1974:
The School of Management library building opened. It was built using a benefaction made by the Jacobson family.

1993:

2008:
Construction work on the £12.5 million investment in new facilities and Learning Resource Centre got underway, with the demolition of Seasons Restaurant.
2010:
January 2010 saw the completion of a £12.5m redevelopment including a new 3 storey building. The innovative building design includes a striking atrium space, housing Seasons Restaurant, linking the new build element with its original Victorian architecture and provides a focal point for the campus. The final phases will be complete in September with the refurbishment of the Yvette Jacobson building to include student support services, teaching space, multi-faith room, and showers.  In addition the Law School will relocate to the refurbished Coach House.
