Programme of Events

The programme of events that form part of the Leadership Institute for Communities offering is a combination of lectures, workshops and events.

Some events have been specifically developed for the Institute including the 'A conversation with...' series and others such as our  thought provoking and challenging public lectures series' Faith and the City and Bradford Debates...are examples of successful programmes that complement the Institutes work.

Some of the lectures planned for the next twelve months will be stand alone free public lectures whilst others will hold a charge for non Institute members.

All events will take place on the University's main campus, unless otherwise specified. The programme of forthcoming confirmed events, available to members is outlined below.

Modern leadership is challenging and ever changing.  The speakers will reflect upon this and how they use coaching and mentoring as a tool to enhance their leadership.


Speakers: Noorzaman Rashid, Head Hunter, Business Builder and Social Entrepreneur - Jane Vincent, Managing Direcor, Candelisa People, Social Activist, Postive Bradford.

Faith and the City - The Rt Revd Lord Harries

Thursday 24 May 2012 - 5.30-7.00pm

This is a free public lecture, but places must be booked in advance


The Rt Revd Lord Harries, former Bishop of Oxford and Dean of Kings College London will speak as part of the Faith and the City Programme on 'Religion in the Public Sphere'.
An Evening with Tony Benn

Wednesday 20 June 2012 -7.30pm start

Free to members, £12.50 to non members


The veteran Labour politician Tony Benn will be talking about his life in politics and what he thinks about the changes in the Labour party. Expect an evening of frank responses and entertaining political anecdotes. This is a welcome sequel to his original legendary theatre tour.
Leadership in a Political Context

Free to members £20 to non members


This leadership learning set will complement 'An evening with Tony Benn' by drawing on learning from his event and and by featuring a local political leader will add local context.

(External) Hajj, Jouney to the Heart of Islam

Qaisra Khan

Free to member £3 to non members


 Qaisra Khan will host this lecture as a reflection on her major exhibition which charts the history of this deeply personal journey.

Examining the extraordinary travel logistics involved and how the wider operation of the event has changed over time, the exhibition compares how pilgrims over the centuries negotiated this often monumental undertaking and how it continues to be experienced by people from all corners of the globe today.


Fearless Fundraising, a new age of Philanthropy

This participatory seminar will hear Mary Alex, innovative philantrhopist share her expertise. She will cover 'Be Inspired, Be Motivated and Begin Now - How to approach big donors' along with 'Fearless Fundraising, find your voice and exercising your power'.

In these changing and challenging times this seminar will give attendees a real insight into philanthropy as a way forward.


Leadership in a Socially Responsible Organisation

Herman Snelder, Director, (External) MDF


 Tuesday 16 October 2012 - 5.30-7.30pm

Free to members £45 to non members


 Herman Snelder will draw upon his experience of how to lead an Institution based on the principles of Corporate Social Responsibility or "Rhineland".

This leadership learning set will highlight the impact an organisations values can have on leadership styles.


The programme of events is continually developing, new events will be added when confirmed so don't forget to check back for other exciting events.

The Institute is continually researching and inviting speakers to Bradford and would welcome any suggestions from members. Please email community@bradford.ac.uk with ideas.
