Investigate Occupations

Want to find out what experience and skills you need to be a ... ?

Whatever occupation you are considering, we can point you in the right direction for information. Here's how to research the occupation of your choice:

Browse the (External) Occupational Section of the Prospects Web

The occupational information is provided by AGCAS (the Association of Graduate Careers (External)

Prospects.ac.uk logo linking to Occupational Section of Prospects.ac.uk Advisory Services) so you can be sure that what you read will be relevant to the graduate market. You can search occupational areas such as legal services, or specific occupations such as Solicitor. Typically you will find information on entry requirements, work conditions, training, job activities, career development and typical employers. It even tells you where to look for information on vacancies relating to the occupation.

Alternatively, you can find all this information and much more in the Careers Information Room in Career Development Services. What's more, we don't expect you to navigate your own way around our resources. Ask for help from a member of the Information Team who will show you around and help you find what you are looking for. If you ask us for information on something we haven't got or can't find, we will do our best to track it down for you.

Send an email to our (External) Careers Advice Via Email service to ask for information on occupations and how to decide which of the hundreds available, might suit you best. We promise to get back to you within 3 working days with helpful information and advice targeted to your specific needs.

Get Advice!

Once you've found out about the occupations which interest you, you will need to spend some time in analysing your skills and abilities to make sure you have a match! We can help you do this - our Career Development Advisers can give you individual guidance on what occupations are best suited to your interests and skills.

You can also get information on how to evidence your skills and prove to a recruiter that you have what they are looking for in our Employability Skills section.
