Help from Career Development Services

How we can help you now

You are making lots of key decisions at the moment – where to study, what to study, how to study – and an important element of decision-making is having good, accurate information to help you.

If you are wondering what careers our courses can lead to, or trying to decide which course would suit you best; or you know what subject you want to study but are worried that it might not lead to a ‘proper job’, we can help you.

We can tell you what our students have done, six months after graduating, on all of our undergraduate courses
We can give you information about the graduate labour market – what jobs are available and where; how much you could earn; what your chances of success might be etc.
We can give you information on how Career Development Services will help you develop your employability skills through a range of work experience, academic projects and other initiatives.

Email your queries to our Careers Advice Via Email service. The system will ask you to say what course you are studying (as we also use the same system for our students) but just pick your academic area of interest. Ask you question and we will get back to you within 3 working days.

How we will help you if you study here

As soon as you arrive at University, Career Development Services can help:

Giving confidential, impartial careers guidance at any time during your studies
Discuss any aspect of your career planning, including module and course options
Get help in finding part time and vacation work in your first year
Get advice on a placement application in your second
Help with working out what to do with the rest of your life in your final year and beyond
Help with weighing up the pros and cons of a gap year, before, during or after study

Our dedicated careers information room will provide you with relevant, focused information on occupations, further study, work and travel abroad, prospective employers and job vacancies.

Our website delivers information on all aspects of career planning; our Jobs Online database will give you up-to-date information on jobs, including part-time work, placements, vacation work and jobs for after graduation.

You can get practical help on essential job-seeking skills including CV writing, interview technique etc. and we will help you develop your employability skills through a range of initiatives and projects. You can even use your career development work towards your final degree by taking employment-related academic credit-bearing modules. We also organise events to put you in touch with recruiters.

This website is written primarily for our students and graduates. Have a look through it now – it will give you an idea of what we do, and how we will be able to help you. Some of our enhanced services require a University of Bradford login but most of the information is fully accessible to all visitors.
