Kinga Pasko, a Medical Engineering student at the University of Bradford and originally from Poland recently completed a twelve month, paid industrial placement at DePuy International, Leeds. Kinga was working as a Student Bioengineer alongside Gemma John, a Medical Engineering graduate of the University of Bradford.
Kinga's placement involved new product development - implants and surgical instruments. She worked closely with other bioengineers, designers and mechanical engineers.
"I liked the idea of working in a fascinating field. ..." said Kinga; " helping people overcome medical difficulties while using my skills to solve challenging problems. I have seen videos of patients suffering from excruciating pain; unable to walk –a few days after the surgery - it is like looking at a different person. It makes me feel good and proud of what I'm doing."
Encore Award
Kinga was awarded a Bronze Encore Award which is a global recognition programme that provides globally consistent award levels and fosters collaboration across the J&J family of companies.
Kinga's award is in recognition of her work preparing new surgical instruments kits for their clinical evaluation,which is classed as an event that has benefited an individual or department.
Kinga was recognised by Liam Rowley who is the Manager of Knee NPD Department in Leeds
Subsequent to the above award Kinga is now the recipient of a Silver Encore Award for the production of new surgical instruments used in total knee replacement surgery. " Every day someone's life is changed because of our work ..."
