First FAIRER Meeting of New Academic Year

FAIRER - Bradford's Women's Engineering Society's First Get Together of New Academic Year

Members of FAIRER meet to network and plan events for the group for the coming year.

Students attended the first meeting of the new academic year from a range of courses including Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Medical Engieneering together with female academic staff Professor Fun Hu and Dr. Alma Schellert.

During the networking meeting, the group enjoyed tasty snacks including hot samosas organised by this year's FAIRER Student co-ordinator Mechanical Engineering Student, Humeera Shameem.  "I am very excited to be organising events for FAIRER." Said Humeera; "It's a great support for women students in EDT, I've been a member since I started my course here and I'm delighted and proud to be the Co-ordinator this year."

FAIRER will celebrate it's tenth anniversary in 2012 and a big event is planned to mark this occasion.  The group usually meet once a month during term time in an informal setting.  The events are fun and revolve around food, sometimes picnics on the University's ampitheatre, or pizza and wine.  Guest speakers are invited to speak to the students about their experiences in industry and graduates and former FAIRER members often revist the University to talk about their careers after University.

Pictured below in the gallery are members of FAIRER at the event taking part in some fun, ice breaking games.

The next event is planned for November 2012 when a representative from EWB (Engineers Without Borders) will visit the University to talk to the

students about becoming involved in a project in the scheme in the future.
