Kate Hall - From Bradford to Beijing.
Kate Hall graduated from the University of Bradford in Civil Engineering in 1995. Her career has gone from strength to strength; last year Kate was named one of Management Today’s ‘35 women under 35’, the publication’s annual list of women they think have the potential to rise to the very top of their game. She was also profiled in the Business section of the Sunday Times, The Fortune 500 and The Daily Mail.
Kate is now an Associate Director at Arup and has recently returned from a business trip to Beijing where she visited the Olympic Green and venues for consultation about her plans for the Olympic park Site in London where Kate is currently the Project Manager for Arup’s work designing the infrastructure for the Olympic Park Site for the London 2012 Games. She is leading a team of 400 and civil engineering has taken her around the globe working in the Far East, Australia, New York and Ireland.
When we caught up with Kate recently, she remembered the following about her time at Bradford :-
• Great cheap curries.
• Great lecturers in the civ eng department
who were inspiring.
• A mad duo who covered concrete design and sewerage from
memory, but who triumphed in a different style of learning.
• Getting up to
mischief in the halls of residence, the road works outside halls would be minus
a few traffic cones and signs.
• Some great water fights between floors.
•
Escaping to the moors to fly kites with friends.
• Beautiful scenery so close
to a city.
• A great film club which has endeared her to arts films ever
since.
• Great beer festivals, cheapest beer in the land!
• Winning the
ICE prize at the end of the year.
Kate has moved from pure design and calculations to leading technical projects and now has a wide portfolio of technical project management and site experience across civil engineering and multidisciplinary projects including Hong Kong Central Station, M6Toll, N25 Waterford Bypass and the Gateway Upgrade Project Brisbane.
