Electronics, Communications and Information Systems Engineering
Our mission is to advance awareness and understanding of telecommunications engineering through addressing global research challenges, transferring knowledge and developing world-wide strategic partnerships.
The Electronics, Communications and Information Systems Engineering Research Group (ECISE RG) has been at the forefront of pan-European, national and industrially-funded research in the areas of mobile, wireless and satellite communications since the early 90s. The subsequent wealth of experience and know-how have helped to ensure that we remain at the cutting-edge of research and development in engineering and technology. Such experience has been successfully diffused through to our MSc portfolio , which reflects our research strengths.
Research within the ECISE is conducted in purpose built laboratories, each with a dedicated focus. The Electrodynamics Laboratory includes new near field and SAR measurement facilities up to 6 GHz, and a 100 cubic metre anechoic chamber, which is capable of providing measurements up to 20 GHz. Other laboratories are dedicated to mobile and wireless networking, wireless sensors and embedded systems, network performance modelling and satellite communications.
Our postgraduate students benefit from working in a first class, well-equipped research environment. We attract students from around the world and have enjoyed funding from grant-awarding bodies in the UK and EU, often in partnership with industry. Our staff enjoy an international reputation, confirmed by our results in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise . Whether you are studying an MSc, MPhil or PhD, you will have the opportunity of working in leading areas of electronics and telecommunications engineering. We invite prospective MSc, MPhil and PhD students and their sponsors to visit us and see some of the latest facilities for teaching and research . Further details of post-graduate opportunities and application procedures, both taught and by thesis, are available at this link .
Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Bradford supports a vibrant, supportive and productive postgraduate community. The size of our research group ensures that the number of postgraduate research students is large enough to ensure a lively, interesting and diverse postgraduate community where you will find other students working on related fields. We consider postgraduates integral to maintaining our healthy research culture.
The three-year PhD is the established route into academic and research careers, although it is also increasingly seen as an exceptional qualification for individuals pursuing other professional positions. All of our staff are active researchers and we are pleased to welcome suggestions of your own. We encourage you to contact staff directly to discuss potential ideas and we can assist in the development of a topic. More details on staff research interests and recent and ongoing research projects can be found on the staff web pages .
