Bradford Engineering Students to benefit from £10K Scholarships

The school of Engineering Design and Technology at the University of Bradford is delighted to be a recipient of the Ford Blue Oval Scholarships to award to our students starting their engineering degree courses in 2012.

"We are delighted that the Ford motor Company maintain their involvement with the School, which has continued over many years, and we would like to congratulate the Company on celebrating 100 years of operations and success in the UK." said Professor Alastair Wood, Dean of the School of Engineering, Design & Technology.

Historically and currently Bradford’s School of Engineering, Design & Technology has enjoyed extensive collaboration with Ford, some of which is listed below:-

sm-bullet The Ford MSc Programme in Engineering Quality Improvement has graduated over 100 Ford Engineers since 1994.

sm-bullet FORD industrial placements for our Mechanical & Automotive Engineering undergraduate students over a 20 year period, and Ford input to MSc projects.

sm-bullet Ford sponsorship in collaborative research projects including PhD research in engine mapping and calibration, emissions optimization, condition monitoring, regenerative braking, engineering polymers and elastomers, also support for research laboratories including the recently opened Hybrid Powertrain and Engineering Research Centre.

sm-bullet Professor John Smith, Purchasing Director at FORD, was appointed to the post of Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor in 1995 and was (External) awarded an Honorary Doctor of Engineering Degree by the University in July 2011

sm-bullet Professor Andrew Day, former Dean of the School, was appointed as Ford Professor of Quality Engineering in 1995

sm-bullet Ford has been represented on the School’s Industrial Advisory Board for over 20 years; the current Chair is Paul Philpot, former Director of Ford Power Products.

We hope that Ford “Blue Oval” Scholars will continue our long association with Ford.

EDT has been awarding Benjamin Jowett Memorial Scholarships (£500) to Students on our Mechanical & Automotive Engineering and Automotive Design Technology courses since 1999.
