The Informatics research Workshop

Photographs from the workshops. The Informatics research workshop is an excellent opportunity for research students to exchange ideas and collaborate with research students from other universities. Following the success of previous workshops, the workshop is becoming an important part of the lively research culture in the School of Informatics and the University of Bradford.

Research in the School of Informatics covers the areas of computer science theory and applications, mobile communications, networks and digital media. The School is an exciting framework within which all these elements can flourish, and also benefit from the synergy and potential cross-linkages between the various areas. The School is currently seeking to develop further our research interests in the areas of Telecommunications (with the School of Engineering Design and Technology) and Bioinformatics (in collaboration with the School of Life Sciences an the Institute of Pharmaceutical Innovation).

The School achieved Grade 4 at RAE 2001 (i.e., research quality that equates to attainable levels of national excellence in virtually all of the research activity submitted, with some evidence of international excellence). The School of informatics intends to build on this and progress towards Grade 5 or equivalent at RAE 2008.

The Informatics Research Workshop has been a regular feature of School of Informatics research for a number of years, the Workshop attracts researchers from all over the UK and has included internationally renown keynote speakers such as (External) Professor Alan Dix . We currently have approximately 200 research students working in various disciplines throughout the School and notable strengths include computer/mobile networks , image recognition , quantum computing , artificial intelligenc , computer graphics/games, data mining , new/digital media and studies of the Sun .
