3D FACIS: 3D Fast Acquisition, Characterisation and Identification System

This is a collaborative research project (between University of Bradford and Sheffield Hallam University) funded by Yorkshire Cocept (Higher Education and Innovations) and industrially supported by several leading biometric companies.

Project Summary

The project aims to demonstrate the commercial value of IP generated at Bradford University and Sheffield Hallam University and engage industrial collaborators for future development of an industrial standard system for fast acquisition, identification and recognition of 3D objects. Based on patented technologies at both institutions, the project will generate further IP with particular reference to 3D face acquisition and recognition while having a much broader range of generic applications, for example, in the medical, industrial and transportation fields.

The main deliverable of the project will be the integration and fine-tuning of in-house developed technologies for fast 3D acquisition, 3D data registration, feature selection and characterisation, and classification based on a small set of parameters.   This involves collaboration between research groups at both the institutions in order to integrate those complementary technologies to produce a demonstrator system for fast 3D face acquisition and classification.

Project Duration

Starts: 1 March 2005
Ends:  30 March 2007

Project Funding

£70,000 + Support from various leading biometric companies
